OkCupid CEO Sam Yagan Calls On Online Dating Industry to Innovate – or Die

Founder of America’s Largest Free Online Dating Site Speaking at iDate2008 on the Need to Embrace Bold, New Ideas
iDate2008

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sam Yagan, CEO and co-founder of OkCupid.com – America’s largest and fastest growing free online dating site – and CrazyBlindDate.com, will be speaking at the iDate2008 Internet Dating Conference in Miami (FL) on January 31 and issuing a call to action for the online dating industry to innovate or risk “being left at the altar” by young singles. The iDate2008 Miami conference, held annually, is the largest gathering of executives from the Internet Dating industry.

Yagan’s session, titled “Where’s Dating 2.0? The Lack of Innovation in the Online Dating Industry,” will contrast the evolution of other consumer Internet verticals with the relative standstill of online dating sites over the last decade. Subscription-based online dating sites risk abandonment by their users in favor of Web 2.0 sites that embrace user-generated content and eschew monthly fees.

Additionally, Yagan will highlight those elements of Web 2.0 – high levels of personalization, decentralization, “democratization” of the user experience, and user-generated content, for example – upon which OkCupid.com has built its success; other competitive alternatives threatening to steal users away from traditional dating sites, such as his creation, a blind dating site called CrazyBlindDate, that he will argue is the online dating industry’s biggest innovation this century.

“Our industry is missing the revolution, focusing on superfluous bells and whistles, like background checks and video-dating while ignoring the needs, desires, and expectations of singles,” said Yagan. “Why is it that sites like Digg and Facebook and are free but Match.com and eHarmony charge almost $1,000 per year for membership? Our industry must find a way to adapt to the business models and user experiences that singles expect in a Web 2.0 world.”

To speak with Sam Yagan of OkCupid.com and CrazyBlindDate.com about this call to action, please contact Dawn Sullivan or Christian T. Potts of Schwartz Communications at 781-684-0770 or at okcupid@schwartz-pr.com.

INNOVATIONS, ..... will definitively come from new discoveries on Theories of Romantic Relationships Development.

* It seems that what is important in attracting people to one another may not be important in making couples happy.

* Temporal patterns of relationship variables may indeed play a significant role between prospective mates -> Last stage of temporal patterns: if only high level on personality* similarity* between mates is the core of relationship stability and satisfaction == Dyadic Success for 26_and_more_years_old_persons interested in serious dating.

personality*: measured with the 16PF5 normative test in different languages (no other actual online dating site is using it!!!).
similarity*: calculated using quantum math equations.
